Bernard Lee

Former President and CEO
Institute of Gas Technology

Dr. Lee joined the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT) in 1965, with responsibility for the development of synthetic fuel programs involving coal, oil shale, and liquid hydrocarbons. He retired in 1999 after serving as the Institute’s president and CEO for 21 years. He has also served on the IGT’s Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and on several other industry boards. Dr. Lee is a recognized authority on energy, in particular on fossil fuel conversion technologies, and he has provided frequent testimony to Congress on energy issues. He has earned the Chemical Engineering magazine’s Outstanding Personal Achievement Award in Chemical Engineering, and the American Gas Association’s Distinguished Service Award and Gas Industry Research Award. Since his retirement, Dr. Lee has served as an energy advisor in Malaysia and China. Dr. Lee received his bachelor’s degree and doctorate in chemical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1956 and 1960, respectively.
