Richard Hark

Richard Hark is currently professor and chairperson of the Department of Chemistry at Juniata College, where he has taught since 2001. He is also a certified hazardous materials specialist, volunteers with the Huntingdon County Emergency Management Agency, and serves on the InterAgency Board’s Science and Technology Subgroup. Dr. Hark is a recipient of numerous teaching awards and his work has been published in a variety of journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He has served on a number of professional and academic committees, and is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Academy of Forensic Science, the International Association for Identification, and the Royal Society of Chemistry. His current research interests include organic synthesis and the application of various types of spectroscopy to the analysis of artworks, archeological artifacts, and items of forensic interest, and he is working on development of instrumentation for use by First Responders for the identification of potentially hazardous materials. Dr. Hark earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania.
