Vice President of Global Community Initiatives
Ms. Willner is vice president of Global Community Initiatives for the IBM Corporation. She came to IBM in 1994 from a position as executive director for strategic planning for the New York City Public Schools. There, she was the chief policy advisor to the chancellor and oversaw all evaluation, research, testing and data collection activities in the nation’s largest school district.
Ms. Willner joined IBM to design and implement Reinventing Education, a philanthropic K-12 school reform initiative that now includes 25 grant partnerships with US states and school districts, plus 12 other countries. It focuses on collaborative efforts to develop new applications of technology to overcome common barriers to school improvement and increase student achievement.
Ms. Willner also oversees a range of IBM global philanthropic and volunteer programs. She manages IBM’s humanitarian response to domestic and international disasters.
Ms. Willner serves on the Boards of Directors of Grantmakers for Education and the Center for Education Policy and the National Academy of Engineering’s K12 Task Force.
