The Puget Sound Local Section SCC and WCC invited Dr Mary Virginia Orna to give a talk about her latest book. The event is hosted by Western Washington University and their ACS Student Chapter. It will be hybrid and will be broadcast live. It will be publicized locally and broadly within ACS circles. The event is also publicized with the local library and local book clubs. The event is open and free to the public. Free pizza will be provided before the talk to attract student attendance. Books will be raffled and autographed by the author.

  • Mary Virginia Orna, Dr. Mary Virginia Orna, is Professor Emerita of Chemistry, College of New Rochelle, New York. Her academic specialties are in the areas of color and archaeological chemistry. Her more recent books include The Chemical History of Color (2013), and Archaeological Chemistry: A Multidisciplinary Analysis of the Past (2020). In 2021 she received the the American Chemical Society Joseph B. Lambert History Award “for her original research in the area of color and pigment chemistry.” In 1989, she was designated the New York State Professor of the Year, and in 1994 she served as a Fulbright Fellow in Israel. Her hobby is constructing crossword puzzles and has contributed many of these to the New York Times. She is a member of the Ursuline nuns of the Roman Union.
