Theoretical chemistry is experiencing fast-paced advances along several paradigms: from machine learning to quantum algorithms with simulations accessing ever longer time and length scales. The prospect of predicting and interpreting real-world phenomena is both a major motivation and a realistic goal underpinning the development of state-of-the-art theoretical chemistry methods. This symposium will collect high-profile speakers representing electronic structure, classical and quantum dynamics as well as coarse-grained modeling, with applications spanning physical and biophysical chemistry.

In a rapidly evolving academic landscape, traditional scholarly publishing is facing new challenges and opportunities. Emerging trends, such as the use of AI to assist in paper writing and alternative forms of research dissemination, are reshaping how scientific work is shared. This symposium will focus on how scientists, publishers, and librarians can collaborate to move beyond the idea that journal articles are the only valid outputs of scientific research. We will explore new ways to present and disseminate research that support the professional growth of early career researchers and broaden the reach and impact of scholarship. By rethinking the roles of these stakeholders, we aim to highlight how academic institutions can support more diverse and effective ways of communicating research, and how these efforts can benefit both academia and society.

The symposium aims to bring together experts from experimental chemistry, theoretical modeling, and engineering fields to 1) Showcase cutting-edge research on non-equilibrium mechanisms in green synthesis, including insights from thermal, electrochemical, and plasma catalysis, and interface engineering. 2) Provide a platform for discussing how non-equilibrium strategies can decouple traditional process constraints, enabling more sustainable, decentralized, and efficient chemical production. 3) Highlight recent advances in theoretical frameworks, including machine learning-assisted DFT and molecular dynamics, that enable predictive catalysis and synthesis design. 4) Foster interdisciplinary dialogue, encouraging collaborations that bridge experiment and modeling to accelerate progress in sustainable chemical manufacturing.
