This symposium will highlight recent advances in understanding chemical phenomena in confined and porous environments. This symposium will bring together researchers working on the synthesis, experimental characterization, and computational modeling of porous and low-dimensional materials, including metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), porous organic crystals, zeolites, nanotubes, and two-dimensional materials. Emphasis will be placed on how nanoconfinement alters structure, dynamics, transport, and reactivity at solid–liquid and electrode–electrolyte interfaces, with applications spanning electrocatalysis, electrochemical sensing, energy storage, separations, and confined fluids. By integrating experimental and theoretical research, ranging from advanced spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements to quantum chemistry and molecular simulations, this symposium aims to foster cross-disciplinary discussion and collaboration.

This symposium will highlight recent advances in the development and application of machine-learning (ML) methods across chemical sciences, spanning molecular modeling, materials design, catalysis, and chemical discovery. It will bring together researchers who are developing new machine-learning methodologies as well as applying ML techniques to address fundamental and applied problems in chemistry and chemical engineering. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of machine learning with physical principles, first-principles simulations, and experimental data, as well as on challenges related to model interpretability, transferability, and reliability. By bringing together researchers working on diverse chemical problems, ranging from nonadiabatic dynamics and catalysis to chemoinformatics, biomolecular design, and materials discovery, this symposium aims to foster cross-disciplinary discussion and stimulate new collaborations within the regional chemical sciences community.
