Award at a Glance
Purpose
The purpose of the ACS-CWD (American Chemical Society - Committee on Chemists with Disabilities) Student Travel Award is to encourage and support the participation of students who advance the mission of ACS-CWD and will present a talk or poster at the Spring or Fall ACS Meeting.
Description
The Travel Award provides up to $2,000 toward lodging, transportation, and per diem meals for attendance at the ACS Meeting. The awardee must submit receipts for reimbursement to cwd@acs.org no more than ten days after the last day of the Meeting.
The recipient is encouraged to attend lunch at the CWD Committee’s open meeting during the ACS Meeting.

For full consideration, please submit your application and have letters of support submitted by one of these deadlines:
- ACS Fall Meeting - July 15th
- ACS Spring Meeting - December 15th
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a current student in the United States at the time of application.
- The applicant must be a member of the American Chemical Society in good standing.
- The applicant must provide a copy of their abstract and the ACS acceptance notice.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- The professionalism and completeness of their application
- The applicant’s motivation and goals for attending the ACS Meeting
- The applicant’s volunteer work supporting the mission of the CWD in making chemistry accessible to all, or their personal experience navigating or overcoming accessibility challenges
Application Process
- Create an account on Grant Interface to apply for the travel award.
- Complete the application form and submit it. You will need to provide:
- Your name, email address, and current school
- Contact information for an advisor who can provide a letter of support
- A statement on why you would like to attend the ACS Meeting to present your talk/poster
- A statement on your journey as a student, including how you overcame accessibility challenges in classes and/or research, or your experience advocating for accessibility for others.
- A file with your abstract for the talk/poster you will present at the ACS Meeting
- A file of your abstract acceptance letter for the talk/poster you will present at the ACS Meeting
- You will be notified by email about the status of your application no later than 30 days after the application deadline.
