Opportunity Description:

The group for Computational Chemistry at the Institute of Physical Chemistry is opening at the earliest possible date a PhD position in Theoretical Chemistryavailable at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Germany. The position is for 3 years. The weekly working hours are 50% of a full employment (19,35 h). The salary will be according to the payment grade E 13 TV-L. This position has a teaching obligation of 2 weekly lecture hours.The research focus of the group "Theoretical Spectroscopy and Heterogeneous Catalysis for Solids, Surfaces and Condensed Systems" is on the development and application of quantum mechanical methods in the field of heterogeneous catalysis as well as for the static and dynamic description of electronically excited states in periodic systems, i.e. in solids, condensed systems and on surfaces. The focus of the PhD project will be on method developments and applications in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and theoretical spectroscopy in collaboration with experimental research groups at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel.Eligibility criteria are a completed physics or chemistry university degree (diploma or master), preferably with focus on theoretical chemistry, physics or a related field. Programming skills with Python, Fortran and/or other scripting and programming languages, profound knowledge of quantum chemical software packages for solid-state chemistry as well as experience with Linux systems and high-performance computing are desirable. Excellent English skills in both oral and written communication as well as strong interest in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, within Kiel University as well as internationally, are required.
