Opportunity Description:

This is highly advanced technical laboratory work performing a variety of tasks related to set-up and execution of laboratory experiments related to the daily operations in the laboratory. The responsibilities will include preparing complex laboratory standards and treating samples; using analytical techniques such as gas chromatographic mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatographic tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to analyze samples and collecting, managing, and reviewing extensive amounts of data from procedures. This position includes managing complex processes in laboratory environment. This includes operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instruments. This will also include preparing numerous samples to run on these instruments and making decisions on sample handling. The incumbent will also acquire, maintain, and manage large amounts of data generated in the laboratory. This will include work with analytical software and numerous Excel spreadsheets. Specifically, this work will include quantitating analytical data, reviewing, entering data, and making decisions on quality of the data. Judgment on quantifying generated analytical data, attention to detail, and good record keeping is important. The incumbent will be developing complex laboratory testing methods. The position will also include general lab coordination, maintenance, and management. This will include making decisions on various experimental problems in the laboratory and ordering supplies.Master’s degree or a Bachelors with 3 years of experience in related field. Knowledge of advanced principles, practices, and procedures of laboratory testing and analysis. Knowledge of safe laboratory practices. Knowledge of laboratory equipment operation and terminology. Knowledge of advanced analytical techniques including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. Ability to develop expertise in laboratory testing methods; Ability to maintain accurate records regarding events, outcomes, and associated data. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to supervise and train junior laboratory technicians. Attention to detail. Equipment with which the incumbent must be familiar or will be required to operate or use: Gas chromatographic and liquid chromatographic mass spectrometers (GC-MS and / or LC-MS/MS).
