Computational Postdoctoral Fellow—Gingeras Lab

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory | Cold Spring Harbor, New York, United State of America (USA)

Opportunity Type: Full-time, Postdoctoral Experiences

Current Program: Postdoctorate

Topics: Biochemistry, Biosciences, Computational Chemistry, Health

Sector: Academia

Compensation: Paid

Remote Position: No

Opportunity Description:

The research group of Professor Gingeras at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory investigates the storage of functional information within genomes, crucial for understanding how gene mutations impact biological and clinical outcomes in humans and other organisms. His leadership in large-scale projects like ENCODE has revealed that genomes, from bacteria to humans, undergo pervasive transcription generating noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), which play diverse roles beyond protein production, including in gene regulation and cellular signaling. This research is pivotal for mapping RNA transcription across genomes, influencing various aspects of disease diagnosis and treatment, such as the dysregulation of PTEN by ncRNAs like HOTAIR in endometrial cancer, particularly in obese individuals with disrupted adipogenesis and lipid metabolism. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to participate in projects seeking the causes and mechanisms of action of short RNAs in the development of inflammatory reactions and in the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) from Monoclonal B-cell Lymphocytosis (MBL).
