The Interactive Online Network of Inorganic Chemists (IONiC) hosts the the Virtual Inorganic Pedagogical Electronic Resource (VIPEr), (https://www.ionicviper.org/) This community has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and features a repository of Learning Objects (LOs). These LOs are contributed by registered users and cover a wide-range of topics from both general and inorganic chemistry. These LOs take a variety of forms including, but not limited to: laboratory experiments, in-class activities, and literature discussions. This session will include presentations on specific LOs, as well as faculty experiences with implementing LOs into their curriculum. Presentations from VIPEr Fellows and information on SLiThErs, and NanoCHAts are welcome.

This symposium includes invited and submitted oral presentations describing recent advances in environmental chemistry: the study of molecular-level processes occurring in or that impact the environment, ecosystems, and human health. Topics may include environmental chemical transformations and kinetics in the atmosphere, aquatic environments, soil/sediments, or in organisms. Persistence, degradation, fate, and transport of chemicals and materials in the environment. Understanding new sources, behavior, and effects of emerging contaminants. Drivers of the human exposome to chemical stressors, and connections to environmental justice. New experimental or computational methods applied to environmental chemistry; chemical remediation approaches.

This 1-day program will combine aspects of aritficial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods, focusing on their applications in theoretical end experimental chemistry. The topics covered include electronic structure theory, chemical dynamics, biological systems and materials as well as related developments of machine learning methods in these areas. The symposium aims to provide a platform for exchange and collaboration among scientists in the central atlantic region. The gathering of an outstanding group of scholars with expertise in related fields will help cultivate novel research ideas and develop new methodologies for the most challenging problems in chemistry. The symposium will also provide excellent learning experiences for attending young scholars and students who are working in related areas.

S-STEM scholarships provide financial support for incoming undergraduates who are in good academic standing and have verifiable financial needs. The goal of this session is to cover different model frameworks and best practices for potentially obtaining and sustaining an S-STEM scholars program. Anyone interested in learning how to obtain an S-STEM should attend this session. Former S-STEM Principal Investigators/ co- Principal Investigators report what worked and what did not. The takeaways include: 1) Learning about the S-STEM application process 2) Scaling up an S-STEM for larger institutions- scholars success stories and 3) Resubmitting an S-STEM application.

Invited and open call for oral presentations broadly encompassing recent advances in the chemistry of thin film materials. Material thin films, ranging from a monolayer to a few micrometers in thickness, have found increasing utility in applications such as catalysis, sensing, coatings, energy harvesting, lighting displays, and many others. A nearly endless range of organic and inorganic materials have been produced in thin film form, such as nanoparticles, metal-oxides, metal-organic frameworks, perovskites, polymers, and small molecules; each material class exhibits unique properties and presents unique synthetic challenges. This symposium will broadly focus on thin film materials, including state-of-the-art fabrication techniques, the properties exhibited by novel thin films, and/or the varied applications of this important material class. “
