Here’s what others have asked:

Hi – I’m Sarah, and I’ve focused on lab work since graduating from Johns Hopkins four years ago.

I am very interested in physical chemistry and it seems that obtaining a graduate degree would help me make this transition. Would anyone who has made this transition previously be willing to share their journey and tips? It would also be great to get some insights into grad school programs and how to get the most out of the experience.

Thank you so much for your help.

My name is Lucas, and I am an analytic bench chemist.

I have a great idea for a new product useful in many areas, but I’m thinking industrial uses first. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to turn this idea into business. I would love to get some advice and find out more about starting my own company or other potential options to turn this idea into a product.

I greatly appreciate your time and guidance.

Hi Chemists!  I’m Sam and I’ve been a member of ACS for over a decade. I’d like to re-focus my career in a way that supports economically disadvantaged areas of the US and leverages my background as an experienced process analytical chemist. I would love to connect with others who have made this type of transition; I can use help to determine what is and is not feasible, as well as what to consider as I look for these types of opportunities.

Thank you in advance for your insight and wisdom.

Common Questions

  • What can I ask?

You can ask almost anything, from very specific chemistry-related questions, to getting help with your academic or professional development. There are many members in the ACS community that can help you with project ideas, collaborations, growing a startup, figuring out career options, and more. Share information about who you are and what you need help with.

  • Who will see my question?

ACS Link sends your request to members in the ACS community who are best able to answer your specific question. Your question will be visible to this person and ACS administrators.

  • Can I ask a follow-up question?

Yes. Once your question has been matched with an expert, you will have direct communication and can ask additional questions.

  • Will my questions and answers be confidential?

Your question will not be made public. It will be seen only by matched experts and a handful of administrators.

  • Can I request someone specific?

You cannot request someone specific to answer your question. ACS Link uses artificial intelligence to match your request to members of the ACS community based on number of factors, including keywords in your questions, along with your availability, education, experience, and proximity. Visit the ACS Privacy Policy page for more details on ACS member data information sharing.

  • How long will it take to get an answer?

It can be as quickly as an hour or may take up to ten days to receive an answer to your question. The amount of time is determined by whether members have the right experience and expertise to answer your question. ACS thanks you for your patience if you do not immediately receive an answer to your question.

  • Is there a limit to how many questions I can ask?

There is no limit to how many questions you can ask. You are welcome to ask a variety of different questions. In fact, we encourage it!

  • What information do you have about me and who manages it?

For the ACS Link AI algorithm to function, we have shared certain membership data, including areas of expertise, job titles, and degrees, with Protopia so that it may provide these services on your behalf. Questions are matched with experts based on the information you provide in your question and on member data, including areas of expertise, job titles, and degrees. ACS Link uses an artificial intelligence algorithm to match your question with experts who can answer it. Learn more about the ACS Privacy Policy.
