Three international chemists selected for 2016 ACS Nano Lectureship Award

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29, 2016 — The American Chemical Society’s (ACS’) Publications Division has announced three scientists as winners of the 2016 ACS Nano Lectureship Award for outstanding contributions to the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. This year’s award winners are Lifeng Chi, Ph.D., Christopher Murray, Ph.D., and Andrea Ferrari, Ph.D.; each has been selected for exceptional research that embodies the journal’s mission to advance the field through new discoveries.

The ACS Nano Lectureship Award is sponsored by ACS Nano in partnership with the 32nd European Conference on Surface Science (ECOSS-32). To symbolize the journal’s global reach, the award honors one scientist each from the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa and Asia/Pacific. Each winner will receive an award plaque; a $2,000 honorarium; and travel accommodations to attend ECOSS-32. The lectureships and companion lectures will be presented Aug. 30, 2016, during the ECOSS meeting in Grenoble, France.

“We are excited about this terrific lineup of award lectures selected from an extremely competitive field of nominations this year,” says Paul Weiss, Ph.D., Editor-in-Chief of ACS Nano. “All three award winners have made a major impact in the field and are representative of the exceptional work being done in nanoscience and nanotechnology.”

The 2016 ACS Nano Lectureship Award Winners

Lifeng Chi, Ph.D., is a Professor at Soochow University. Her research focuses on supramolecular chemistry on surfaces, in particular, molecular assembly and reactions, molecular patterning and structured functional surfaces.

Christopher Murray, Ph.D., is a Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the integration of precise nanocrystals into devices and technologies.

Andrea Ferrari, Ph.D., is a Professor and Director of the Cambridge Graphene Centre at the University of Cambridge. He is a pioneer in the study of graphene, focusing his research primarily on carbon nanomaterials.

The ACS Nano Lectureship Award, bestowed annually, began in 2012 and has since honored leading scientists in the field, including Chad Mirkin, Ph.D., Northwestern University; Hua Zhang, Ph.D., Nanyang Technological University; Peidong Yang, Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley; Maurizio Prato, Ph.D., University of Trieste; Amanda S. Barnard, Ph.D., Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization; Klaus Müllen, Ph.D., Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research; Zhong Lin Wang, Ph.D., Georgia Institute of Technology; Itamar Willner, Ph.D., Hebrew University of Jerusalem; Kian Ping Loh, Ph.D., National University of Singapore; Frank Caruso, Ph.D., University of Melbourne; James M. Tour, Ph.D., Rice University; and Luis M. Liz-Marzán, Ph.D., University of Vigo (now, Basque Centre of Cooperative Research in Biomaterials CIC biomaGUNE).

ACS Nano, a monthly, peer-reviewed journal, provides an international forum for the communication of nanoscience and nanotechnology research at the interface of chemistry, biology, materials science, physics and engineering. In 2008, ACS Nano was awarded the Association of American Publishers’ Award for Best New Journal in the category of Science, Technology and Medicine. The journal received a Thomson-Reuters ISI Impact Factor of 13.334 in 2015, with more than 97,000 total citations.

About ACS Publications
ACS Publications, a division of the American Chemical Society, is a nonprofit scholarly publisher of 50 peer-reviewed journals and a range of eBooks at the interface of chemistry and allied sciences, including physics and biology. ACS Publications journals are among the most cited, most trusted and most read within the scientific literature. Respected for their editorial rigor, ACS journals offer high-quality service to authors and readers, including rapid time to publication, a range of channels for researchers to access ACS Publications’ award-winning web and mobile delivery platforms, and a comprehensive program of open access publishing options for authors and their funders. ACS Publications also publishes Chemical & Engineering News — the Society’s newsmagazine covering science and technology, business and industry, government and policy, education and employment aspects of the chemistry field.

The American Chemical Society is a nonprofit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress. With nearly 157,000 members, ACS is the world’s largest scientific society and a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. Its main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.
