American Chemical Society strengthens support for global scientific research through new ACS International office in Singapore

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13, 2016 — The Publications and CAS divisions of the American Chemical Society (ACS) together announced today the expansion of the Society’s global footprint with the opening of a new ACS International (ACSI) office in Singapore. The new location is part of the Society’s expanded outreach in the Asia-Pacific region.

Five staff initially will provide regional customer assistance, strengthen collaborations and facilitate local training opportunities as part of the Society’s commitment to being the most authoritative, comprehensive and indispensable provider of chemistry-related information for the global scientific community.

“As the ACS and its two information services continue to increase their global reach, a physical presence here in Singapore is an important aspect of our commitment to engage directly with our scientific authors and editors, and to serve the needs of academic, government and corporate R&D researchers across Asia,” says Peter Hoving, Regional Sales Director, Asia-Pacific, for ACS Publications within ACSI. “We are looking forward to solidifying and expanding our relationships and our engagement in the region.”

The Society recognizes the Asia-Pacific region’s strategic importance as a reputable source for chemical information and research advances. The new Singapore office joins the Society’s three other ACSI locations in the Asia-Pacific region, which are based in China, India and Japan.

ACSI representatives around the world market and support products from the ACS Publications and CAS divisions, provide customer assistance and training activities, and facilitate ACS membership services. “We have experienced impressive results from our global ACS International teams in terms of business development for the Society, as well as closer relationships with researchers and business leaders in their regions,” confirmed Craig Stephens, Vice President, Sales, for CAS. “These offices better enable us to achieve the ACS vision to improve people’s lives through the transforming power of chemistry.”

More than one-third of ACS customers are located within the Asia-Pacific region, and more than one-third of articles published in ACS peer-reviewed journals are authored by scientists from countries throughout the region. Singapore itself is home to four editors for ACS Publications’ highly acclaimed peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Andrew Wee, D.Phil., Associate Editor of ACS Nano; Kian Ping Loh, Ph.D., Associate Editor of Chemistry of Materials; Jim Yang Lee, Ph.D., Associate Editor of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research; and En-Tang Kang, Ph.D., Associate Editor of ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. Given such strong geographic ties, the new Singapore office offers ACS an opportunity to better engage with key constituents throughout Asia.

The ACSI Singapore office is located in Suntec City Tower 4, # 23-01A, 6 Temasek Boulevard, Singapore 038986; Telephone (+65) 6662 9750.
