Speakers

Prof. Shelley Minteer

Dale and Susan Poulter Endowed Chair of Chemistry, University of Utah

Dr. Shelley Minteer is the Dale and Susan Poulter Endowed Chair of Biological Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Utah. She received her PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Iowa in 2000 under the direction of Professor Johna Leddy. After receiving her PhD, she spent 11 years as a faculty in the Department of Chemistry at Saint Louis University before moving to the University of Utah in 2011. She was a Technical Editor for the Journal of the Electrochemical Society (2013-2016) and also an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Chemical Society (2016-2020) and is now the Editor-in-chief of the American Chemical Society Au journals (2020-present). Her research interests are focused on bioelectrocatalysis for biosensing, energy storage and conversion, and electrosynthesis.

Prof. Neus Sabaté

Neus Sabaté obtained her PhD in Physics in 2003. She is an ICREA Research Professor and leader of the Self-Powered Engineered Devices Group at the Microelectronics Institute of Barcelona (IMB-CNM). She has co-authored more than 100 papers in journals and conferences and submitted 15 patents. She is an expert in microfabricated fuel cells, a research line that evolved to the biodegradable electrochemical power sources she develops today. In 2015 she obtained an ERC-Consolidator Grant to develop single-use self-powered sensors as key components of a new generation of affordable and efficient point-of-care devices. She also co-founded Fuelium SL, a company that commercializes paper batteries for single use applications.

Prof. Ciara O'Sullivan

ICREA Research Professor, Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Engineering Sciences

Ciara O' Sullivan received a BSc in Analytical Chemistry from Dublin City University in 1992, a PhD in Biotechnology from Cranfield University in 1996 and went on to lead the sensors group at University College Cork from 1996-99. She then took up a Marie Curie Fellowship at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (1999-2001) and was then awarded a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship which she pursued for 1 year prior to taking up her current position as ICREA Research Professor and establishing the Nanobiotechnology and Bioanalysis Group at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. She is group leader of the GENCAT funded Consolidated Group INTERFIBIO. Her research interests lie in the development of electrochemical and optical biosensors exploiting advances in tailored biocomponents. Presently, her work focuses on molecular diagnostics for screening and monitoring of disease, and the development of aptamers for application in optical and electrochemical molecular aptamer beacons.

Prof. Jordi Arbiol

ICREA and Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), CSIC & BIST

ICREA Professor and Group Leader at ICN2. Scientific Supervisor of the Joint Electron Microscopy Center at ALBA Synchrotron and Member of the Executive Board of the International Federation of Societies for Microscopy (IFSM). He is expert on atomic resolution characterization by means of (scanning) transmission electron microscopy and 3D atomic modelling of nanoscale materials. Prof. Arbiol has >420 publications, >25,150 citations (GoS) and h-index: 88 GoS (77 WoS) (July 2022). He received the FWO Commemorative Medal, BIST Ignite Award and the EU40 Materials Prize 2014 (E-MRS), among others.

Dr. Dinesh Soares

Dr. Dinesh Soares is part of the American Chemical Society International (ACS) team based in Oxford, United Kingdom, where he serves as Associate Publisher overseeing 10 out of the 12 proprietary Open Access journals in the ACS Publications portfolio. This portfolio includes the nine ACS Au “gold” community open access titles launched in 2021 and ACS Omega, one of the largest, most prominent high-quality open access multidisciplinary journals in the chemical sciences. As ACS Publications’ first Editorial Development representative based in Europe since 2017, Dr. Soares has been engaged in extensive editorial and educational outreach for the ACS Publications portfolio. Before joining the ACS, Dr. Soares worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh for ten years, from where he also obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2007. He has authored over 60 publications, spanning several areas of the biological and chemical sciences.
