Researchers will work on a project titled "Nanoscale Imaging and Single-Molecule Metabolite Detection within a Biological Cell by exploiting Laser-driven Quantum Coherences". This project aims to develop an instrument of unprecedented capability that will allow for the identification and mapping of any small molecule within its native single cell environment at nanometer resolution. Determining the spatial distribution of small molecules within cells is crucial for understanding fundamental biological mechanisms. The successful development of this instrument will permit addressing a host of unsolved problems in biology.
