  1. Q: What is the format for my user name and password?
    A:
    Your user name and password should be a combination of 4 to 16 characters and may include letters, numbers, and the following special characters: underscore (_), hyphen (-), period (.), and the at symbol (@). They cannot include space(s). Please note that both the user name and password are case sensitive (i.e., MaryWild is not the same as marywild).
  2. Q: I no longer have access to the email account I used to register/create my ACS ID. How can I change my email address and get a temporary password?

  4. Q: I’m trying to create a new ACS ID, and after I enter my ACS member number, I see an error message. What should I do?
    A:
    This message indicates that there is already an existing account that uses the member number you provided. We permit only one account per member number. If you are unable to recall your user name or the email address you used to register, please contact our customer service team by email or phone at

  5. Q: I’ve forgotten my user name and/or password. How can I get a reminder?
    A:
    Please use our automated Forgot User Name/Password tool. You’ll be asked to enter the email address you used when you created your account, and we’ll mail you a link to a page where you can reset your password. If you’ve forgotten your user name, you can also retrieve it with our tool.
  6. Q: I used the automated Forgot User name/Password tool, but I never received a link to reset my password or recover my user name.
    A:
    Our system requires an exact match to the email address we have on file for you. Please check your spam filter and enable receipt of messages from donotreply@acs.org. The subject line of the message that includes your new password is: ACS ID password reset request. If that’s not the problem, our customer service team is happy to verify the address we have.
  7. Q: How can I change my email address for my ACS ID?
    A:
    Log in to www.acs.org and select the link titled "My Account," which appears at the top of the homepage.  When you select this link, a page with your account details and a link titled "Edit My Profile" will be displayed. Select the “Edit my Profile”  link to change your email address. You can also update your address.  To save the changes, select the "OK" button at the bottom of the screen.   8. Q: How can I delete my existing ACS ID?

  9. Q: How do I find my ACS member number?
    A:
    Use our online lookup tool to find your member number. You can also find your member number on your membership card and on the mailing label of your copy of C&EN. It is either the first seven or first eight numbers on your mailing label. The following information helps to determine your membership number:

    Seven or eight digits followed by a space and several more digits.
    Example: 1234567 432.

    In this case, enter only the first 7 or 8 digits.
    Example: 1234567.
