Susan R. Morrissey, Ph.D.

Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Chief of Staff

Susan R. Morrissey, Ph.D., is the Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Chief of Staff at ACS. In this role, Dr. Morrissey oversees the Society’s strategic direction, the government affairs function, and other key organization-wide initiatives and projects.

Previously, Dr. Morrissey held the position of Vice President of Communications and Publisher of Chemical & Engineering News at ACS where she led internal and external communications, the Society’s marketing function, and operations of C&EN. 

She began her career at C&EN, where she reported on and oversaw the government and policy section of the magazine. She went on to hold several leadership positions at ACS over the past two decades, including the role of Assistant Director of Science Communications in the Office of Public Affairs, and Director of Communications in External Affairs and Communications.

Dr. Morrissey earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Franklin & Marshall College and her Ph.D. in chemistry from Texas A&M University. She enjoys spending time with her family, baking, and coaching youth sports.
