I've been teaching general chemistry, and lately geology, in the community college system for over 20 years. On the side, I carry out and publish geological (geochem and geophysics) research, while involving community college students in both field and laboratory efforts. Before teaching, I worked in the biotech industry as a bench chemist, primarily developing a PCR assay technique. My recommended students get into good universities, medical schools and jobs.

An obsession of mine is the hypothesis that some ophiolites are obducted by impact cratering, hence marking rims of previously unrecognized very large impact basins. This 2018 AGU e-poster summarizes the idea.
