Semi-Retired Quality Assurance/Quality Control specialist in the Biotech Industry
B.S., Chemistry & Biology, Eastern Washington University, Cheney, WA
I am a graduate from Eastern Washington University, Cheney, WA, with a B.S. in Chemistry & Biology. I am published in the Journal of Chemical Education (Co-Authored with Dr. Susan Bell) for the development of a control charting laboratory exercise in Analytical Chemistry. I also authored a Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual for the Analytical Laboratory under Dr. Bell. I was the recipient of the Swartz Biotechnology Internship where I characterized antibiotic resistance of Staph using PCR and Southern Blotting at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.
I have been an ACS member since 1997 and a Career Consultant since 2009. I’m both curious and passionate about the process of developing and managing one’s career. My involvement in the ACS includes being the Chair/Chair Elect for both the Inland Northwest and Puget Sound sections. I have also served as General Co-Chair for the 57th Northwest Regional Meeting in Spokane, WA.
I have spent over 30 years working in industry. I have focused my professional career on Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC) and continuous improvement methodologies in the biotechnology and manufacturing sectors. I have extensive experience applying current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) within multiple biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. I have been an analytical chemist performing raw material testing and drug product release, validation engineer and manager of calibration, maintenance, and validation programs. In my last role, I managed Facilities Compliance for Seattle Genetics and Evotec in the greater Seattle area. I managed personnel that bridged the technical gap between the Manufacturing, Facilities and Engineering groups and QA. We completed deviation investigations, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and project managed improvement projects and change management efforts.
I am a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and Six Sigma Black Belt (CCSB) through American Society for Quality (ASQ). I am also a certified workshop presenter for the ACS.
I am currently semi-retired and focusing on volunteering opportunities with the ACS.
