Dr. Viswanath served as a Senior Scientist with Washington River Protection Solutions (a US Department of Energy contractor) at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland, Washington, before taking retirement in 2011. His environmental industry experience spanned over 35 years (mixed nuclear and chemical waste characterization, hazardous materials management, air and vapor sampling and characterization, and laboratory management) and taught undergraduate Chemistry for over 15 years.
Dr. Viswanath received his Doctoral degree in Chemistry from the University of Detroit, Michigan, United States and a Masters in Chemistry from Bangalore University, India. He holds two professional certifications, namely, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and Registered Environmental Manager (REM).
He is an Emeritus member of the American Chemical Society (ACS). He served on the ACS Chemical Health and Safety Committee for several years. He has also served as a Career Consultant for the ACS since 2002, and as Chair, Southern Nevada Section of ACS, Las Vegas, Nevada 2018-2019.
He was awarded Fulbright Scholarship (2015-2016) for a project on “Measuring and Source Fingerprinting Volatile Organic Compounds in Air in the Metropolitan City of Bangalore, India.”
He has been named a Distinguished Diplomate and a Fellow of the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM). He was recognized by the Institute for his many professional achievements in the areas of hazardous materials management and environmental chemistry.
