What do you love about your job?
I love being an innovator! Every day there are new opportunities requiring diverse teams and creative solutions. I work with a variety of people and trades to come up with answers to problems that can’t be found in a text book. Getting to go outside and see theoretical work manifest into a hands-on project is invaluable to any developing career. This empowerment to make change is what drives the love and passion I have for my career.
What has been the most exciting part of your career so far?
Incorporating innovative technology is exciting to me. When I go out into the plant, I feel like a kid in a candy store. I look around, see all the opportunities, and my ideas grow out of all the possibilities. It is extremely rewarding to use new technologies in order to foster positive change and simultaneously create safer conditions. Each day I learn from the day before, and that experience alongside continuous innovation guarantees that my career will remain exciting.
What would you tell yourself at age 18?
Do what makes you happy! Find challenges, fix problems, and make your work area a better place. These things don’t come quickly or easily, and there are times that you will encounter failure. Obstacles are just the challenges that you need to seek out in your career. The same day, same job, and same routine gets old—when you are able to overcome an obstacle or find a new solution to a problem, you are keeping the process interesting as well as adding value to your position.
How has ACS Scholars impacted your life and career?
ACS Scholars has directly impacted my life. I have found my dream job and this was only made possible through an internship opportunity that came about because of ACS. Before starting my career, ACS promoted college mentorships that built my support system for when things were overwhelming. Supporting myself through college was difficult, but the financial support, mentorships, and resources that ACS offered directly contributed to the success in my life and career.
