2019 Franco-American Lectureship Prize Recipient: Frédérique Cunin

Dr. Frédérique Cunin
Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier

Dr. Frédérique Cunin is the recipient of the 2019 Franco-American Lectureship Prize.  

Dr. Cunin is a materials science researcher at the Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier in Montpellier, France, where she focuses on the development and fundamental properties of porous silicon particles. In particular, her research has applications in nanomedicine, targeted anti-cancer therapies, gene-based therapies and tissue engineering.

Cunin has long-established ties to the U.S. research community, including spending time as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Michael Sailor, Ph.D. of the University of California, San Diego. She has worked extensively to build bridges between French and American chemistry practitioners and has served as an organizer for several cross-cultural research conferences.

Professor Karl Kadish (University of Houston) is the 2018 recipient of the prize as selected by the French Chemical Society (SCF). Kadish was recognized at the SCF Meeting in Dijon, France as well as the ACS Boston Meeting.

2017 recepient Professor Marie-Paule Pileni was recognized at the ACS National Meeting in Boston on August 19, 2018 for her contributions to the Franco-American research landscape.

About the Award

A joint endeavour between ACS and the French Chemical Society (SCF)

In 2016, ACS and the French Chemical Society (SCF) signed a three-year alliance agreement. As part of the agreement, the Franco-American Lectureship Prize was established. In alternating years, ACS and SCF will take turns hosting a chemist for a lecturing tour. 

Strong candidates for this prize will:

  • Have strong connections with the Franco-American research community.
  • Be a researcher or chemist in France.
  • Contribute to professional interactions between the Franco-American chemical enterprise.
  • Be a member of the French Chemical Society (SCF)

Nominees with a strong scientific background at the early and mid-career levels are welcomed. Applications will be selected by a sub-committee of the Committee on International Activities.
