What do you love about your job?
What I love the most about my current job, is that I know I am making a difference. My job is in the Grants and Contracts Dept. of the Financial Accounting Office of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. I have acquired skills in grant submission and grant and contract compliance with all federal funding agencies such as the Dept. of Justice and Health and Human Services. I know I am helping my tribe with my skill and expertise. Therefore I have fulfilled my goal of giving back to the community.

What has been the most exciting part of your career so far?
The most exciting part of my job, is that I have assisted in obtaining the first clean audit for the Oglala Sioux Tribe in the history of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, for 2015. It was very difficult in the beginning, but in the end it was worth it. Everyday, we, as a tribe, are reaching positive milestones, and it's exciting to be apart of the team.

What would you tell yourself at age 18?
I would tell my 18 year old self to pursue more Business oriented degrees. Everyday, I kick myself when I remember my college friend telling me to double major in Chemistry and Business. I understand now, that having a business oriented mind is also a huge part of the Chemistry field.

How has ACS Scholars impacted your life and career?
The ACS Scholars program impacted my life in ways that I needed. I needed to know that it was possible, as a Native American Woman, to obtain a Chemistry degree. I needed to know that I mattered. And most importantly, I needed to know that I am can make a difference. The ACS Scholars program had faith in my abilities and supported me when I needed fortitude and financial assistance. Without this support, I wouldn't be where I am today with the degrees I have obtained.
