What do you love about your job?
I love the opportunity to investigate engineering problems of both scientific and practical importance. The ability to interact with undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers, along with other faculty, to develop solutions is a continuously stimulating experience. The 'eureka' moments experienced both in the laboratory and classroom are the highlight of every day.

What has been the most exciting part of your career so far?

What would you tell yourself at age 18?
I would tell my 18-year-old-self to keep doing what you are doing. Every experience and interaction, both positive and negative, has made me who am I today, and has provided me with the foundation to continue moving forward.

How has ACS Scholars impacted your life and career?
The ACS Scholars has had a critical impact on my life and career. From my first ACS meeting in Boston in the late 1990s, where I saw exciting science and made wonderful friends (some of whom are now colleagues), to the continual guidance of Dorothy Rodmann, who made numerous phone calls with an uplifting thought or word, the ACS Scholars program has reinforced a positive message and community spirit. It is wonderful to see the Scholars program still thriving today.
