University of Central Florida, Class of 2009

Currently Working As:
Associate Professor of Chemistry, Lonestar College - University Park Campus

What do you love about your job?
I have always stated that "chemistry is life." This reiterates how important chemistry is to our day-to-day life, because without atoms and molecules there is no matter. The spreading of this knowledge in an interesting and relevant fashion is what I love the most about my career in education.

What has been the most exciting part of your career so far?
Lonestar College - University Park is a quickly growing community college campus that was awarded bond-funding to build a science laboratory building. I took part in the planning and design of the chemistry laboratories. The Center for Science and Innovation is now operating and classes are being taught in the labs that I helped to design; this has been a wonderful experience.

What would you tell yourself at age 18?
Opportunities are awarded to those that are prepared and think ahead.

How has ACS Scholars impacted your life and career?
I am not sure that I would have been able to achieve my dream of teaching at the collegiate level without help from the American Chemical Society Scholars program and the support that was given throughout my undergraduate experience. Special thanks to Robert Hughes who was always supportive and enjoyed communicating with the Scholars.
