Society Committee on Education

What We Do

The Society Committee on Education (SOCED) ensures that the American Chemical Society's educational activities focus on the committee’s vision of advancing chemistry education for all and on ACS Goal 3 to Support Excellence in Education.

The committee fulfills its mission of developing and promoting policies, resources, and programs that advance chemistry education for all via three goals:

  • Foster a culture of innovation and integrity in chemistry teaching, learning, assessment, and mentored research
  • Advance inclusive excellence for all learners and educators
  • Support and recognize chemistry educators and mentors

Who We Are

SOCED reports to both the Council and the Board of Directors. SOCED members may serve up to six years. The SOCED Chair may serve no more than three years in this capacity.

SOCED has three subcommittees:

  • Supporting Excellence in Education
  • Student Communities
  • Science Education Policy

Several subgroups and advisory boards also support the work of SOCED.
