Four high school students will be representing the U.S. in the 51st International Chemistry Olympiad in Paris from July 21–30. The members of the U.S. team were chosen based on their performance at last month’s intensive Chemistry Olympiad Study Camp at the University of Maryland, College Park. The study camp – which included 20 of the nation’s top high school chemistry students -- was organized by the American Chemical Society and sponsored by Chemours.
The final four for this year’s team are: Edward Jin from Arnold O. Beckman High School in California (Orange County Local Section); Albert Liu from North Hollywood High School in California (Southern California Local Section); Anton Ni from University High School in California (Orange County Local Section); and Yajvan Ravan from Churchill High School in Detroit (Detroit Local Section).
In addition to Chemours’ donation, the team received support from the University of Maryland at College Park’s Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The following corporations also support the program through financial or in-kind donations: Carolina Biological Supply, Fisher Science Education, Flinn Scientific, National Geographic, Cengage Learning, John Wiley & Sons Publishers, Pearson Education Company, Millipore Sigma, Texas Instruments and University Science Books.
