Pyrabactin is a synthetic sulfonamide. Earlier this year, S. R. Cutler discovered that pyrabactin turns on the abscisic acid signaling pathway in Arabidopsis thaliana, a flowering plant used as a model organism in genetic studies. Its role as an abscisic acid mimic may make pyrabactin an important tool for protecting crops against drought and cold weather.
