American Chemical Society to concurrently host onsite, online career fair Aug. 28-31

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4, 2011 — For the first time, the American Chemical Society (ACS) will simultaneously host an onsite and an online Career Fair during its 242nd National Meeting & Exposition in Denver, Aug. 28-31. This hybrid approach allows far more chemical scientists than ever before to interact with prospective employers, learn new skills to support their job search, and participate in a variety of workshops, keynote presentations and webcasts. In addition, both online and onsite job seekers will be able to schedule one-on-one sessions with ACS Career Consultants.

Job seekers and employers can register at www.acs.org/careerfair. ACS membership is not required to participate in the free Virtual Career Fair. However, to participate in onsite activities in Denver, attendees must be ACS members and register for the meeting. For unemployed members, national meeting registration is free.

“This innovation greatly expands the reach of ACS career service programs, which are already the most far-reaching of any scientific organization,” ACS Executive Director & CEO Madeleine Jacobs said. “No matter where a person may be, or when they have time in their very busy schedules, they can now participate in interviews, webcasts and live chats as well as gather information about employers and job candidates.”

Scheduled workshops and panel discussions include “Navigating the Industrial Job Market,” “Academic Jobs Outlook,” “Planning Your Job Search,” and “Effective Interviewing.” Many of the presentations will be offered live at the ACS National Meeting as well as live and on-demand via a virtual auditorium so that both onsite and online job seekers can fully participate. Among the notable speakers are George Whitesides of Harvard University, Jason Ritchie of the University of Mississippi, Richard Connell of Pfizer Inc. and Scott Harberson of Concert Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

All job seekers — whether onsite or online — will have the opportunity to review current job openings and meet with participating employers. Employers interested in exhibiting at the onsite and online Career Fair can register at www.acs.org/one-stop-recruiting.
