Kids Zone science event for families at ACS national meeting in San Diego

WASHINGTON, July 11, 2019 — The American Chemical Society (ACS) is hosting a fun Kids Zone community event on Saturday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Fleet Science Center in San Diego.

The outreach event is part of the ACS Fall 2019 National Meeting & Exposition that will take place Aug. 25 to 29 in San Diego. Everyone is invited to learn about the meeting’s theme of ”Chemistry and Water,” celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table and receive giveaway bags with periodic table posters and other educational materials. Students can go in depth by interviewing researchers and creating and sharing stories in the Science Storytellers corner, hosted by Chemical & Engineering News.

Explore the wonders of chemistry with easy, hands-on activities including:

Lincoln Drops - Water molecules are very attracted to each other.

M&Ms® in Water - Water molecules are always in motion.

Yellow and Blue - How does water interact with different liquids?

Pencil Electrolysis - What is water made of?

Suds or Duds - Is water ever pure?

What’s in the Water - How can you tell there’s something more in water?

Chemistry Cleaning Machine - How can you remove what’s in water?

Colorful Lather Printing - How do chemists use their understanding of water to make products better?

Admission to the center is required to attend the event. Coupons for discounted admission on Aug. 24 and other information are available on the ACS Kids Zone website, www.acs.org/kidszone.
