Tetranitroglycoluril (also known as sorguyl) is a highly explosive compound developed by the French 30 years ago. (See Boileau, J.; Emeury, J.-M. L.; Kehren, J.-P. US Patent 4,487,938, December 11, 1984.) It is more powerful than conventional HMX-, RDX-, and TNT-based bomb fillers. It is, however, hydrolytically unstable, which has kept it from being used in battle.
HMX is octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine; RDX is 1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine; TNT is 1,3,5 trinitrotoluene.
