Kavli Lectures: Artificial photosynthesis, materials with unprecedented properties

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8, 2017 — Artificial photosynthesis and liquid-filled nanostructured materials will be the topics of a pair of Kavli Lectures at the 254th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society. The meeting will take place Aug. 20 to 24 in Washington, D.C.

The presentations, among nearly 9,400 scheduled to take place at the meeting, will be held on Monday, Aug. 21, from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. and 5:15 to 6:30 p.m., in Ballroom A&B of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The first speaker will discuss artificial photosynthesis accomplished via nanostructured catalysts. The second speaker will cover liquid-filled nanostructured materials with intriguing properties and behaviors.

  • Prashant K. Jain, Ph.D. (4:00 p.m.): The Kavli Foundation Emerging Leader in Chemistry Lecture
    “Turning photons into chemical bonds”
  • Joanna Aizenberg, Ph.D. (5:15 p.m.): The Fred Kavli Innovations in Chemistry Lecture
    “Multifunctionality of liquid-filled nanostructured materials: From encryption to anti-fouling”

The Kavli lecture series is a result of a collaboration between ACS and The Kavli Foundation, an internationally recognized philanthropic organization known for its support of basic scientific innovation.
