ACS Publications endorses publishing trade group’s approach toward ResearchGate

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2017 — The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society supports the constructive and user-friendly solution that the International Association of Scientific Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) has proposed today to ResearchGate, a venture capital-funded commercial sharing website. STM’s offer was sent to ResearchGate on behalf of its member publishers.

The proposed approach would enable ResearchGate to operate its scholarly collaboration network service in compliance with copyright laws, and in a manner consistent with whatever access and usage rights have been agreed upon between authors and the scientific journals in which they have published. At the same time, the proposed solution would enable authors to share their published research with interested colleagues in a seamless way.

The American Chemical Society is a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related information and research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. ACS does not conduct research, but publishes and publicizes peer-reviewed scientific studies. Through its Publications Division, the Society publishes 50+ peer-reviewed journals and eBooks. ACS journals are among the most cited, most trusted and most read within the scientific literature. The Publications Division offers high-quality service to authors and readers, including rapid time to publication, cutting-edge web and mobile delivery platforms and comprehensive open-access options. The Society's main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.
