American Chemical Society names exclusive sponsor for C&EN’s Talented 12 showcase

WASHINGTON, March 15, 2018 — The American Chemical Society (ACS) announces that it is collaborating with Thermo Fisher Scientific on an exclusive two-year sponsorship of the Chemical & Engineering News’ (C&EN’s) Talented 12 Program. C&EN, the world’s leading source of chemistry news, is published by ACS. The program kicks off this month with a renewed call for nominations of inspiring young chemical researchers for the prestigious program.

C&EN’s Talented 12 identifies and celebrates young chemists from academia, industry and other research sectors who are just beginning to put their innovative and transformative ideas into practice. Past classes of promising researchers who are poised to significantly influence science and society have included extraordinary graduate students, early-career faculty members and entrepreneurs.

“Through our Talented 12 program, C&EN champions and celebrates young talent in the chemical sciences from around the globe,” says Bibiana Campos Seijo, Ph.D., editor-in-chief of C&EN. “Each year since 2015, we have assembled what can only be described as a ‘dream team’ of trailblazers from academia, industry and beyond. C&EN selects a new class of Talented 12 each August and, in an annual feature, spotlights their big scientific ideas, their motivations and the paths they took to achieve success. The members of the new class are then part of a live symposium at the fall ACS national meeting and exposition, where they deliver TED-style talks and share the inspiration behind their research.
