Kids Zone invites families to enjoy hands-on science activities
WASHINGTON, August 1, 2022 — Explore the wonders of chemistry with the American Chemical Society’s (ACS’) Kids Zone family science event at the Navy Pier in Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 20, from noon to 3 p.m. CT. The event is being held in conjunction with ACS’ fall 2022 meeting.
Members of ACS local sections and chemistry students will lead the following hands-on activities:
DIY solar cell: Generate electricity with energy from the sun. Learn how to hook-up a circuit, then use a flashlight, which represents the sun, to make electricity.
UV light detectors: Why do you have to wear sunscreen outside in the summer, but not inside when the lights are on? Make and take a UV-light-detecting bracelet.
Nature of dye: Make a colorful work of art from beetles! When treated in a particular way, the insects produce a dye.
