FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ACS Engineering Au is a member of the ACS Au family of journals. These publications are open access, and each one focuses on a specific field relevant to chemistry. Here, we take a look at a few recent papers from ACS Engineering Au, which publishes a broad scope of research from both academic and industrial settings. The journal welcomes papers on topics such as process design, product research, energy and fuels, and measurement techniques. Reporters can request free access to these papers by emailing newsroom@acs.org.
"Heat Recuperation from Internal Combustion Engines by Fuel Reforming: Kinetics-Based Analysis"
ACS Engineering Au
May 14, 2023
Combustion engines give off lots of heat and exhaust gases. That exhaust could be converted directly into cleaner hydrogen fuel using a catalytic reformer powered by wasted heat. So, these authors used simulations to determine the best parameters for a reformer and how well different fuel types would perform.
“Design, Construction, and Concept Validation of a Laboratory-Scale Two-phase Reactor to Valorize Whiskey Distillery By-products”
ACS Engineering Au
May 13, 2023
The liquid and solid byproducts of whiskey distillation are often discarded, wasting resources and energy. But these researchers built and operated a two-phase anaerobic digestor that efficiently produced methane-rich biogas and volatile fatty acids from distillation byproducts using microbes.
“Chemical Recycling of Used PET by Glycolysis Using Niobia-Based Catalysts”
ACS Engineering Au
Jan. 3, 2023
Though millions of tons of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic are produced annually, only a small percentage is recycled. Traditional mechanical recycling involves grinding down used plastics, and products made from this type of recycled material aren’t as robust as the original. So, here, researchers used a chemical recycling method and a solid acid catalyst to break apart PET water bottles into their monomeric building blocks, which can then be rebuilt into a strong plastic.

The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a nonprofit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress. ACS’ mission is to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and all its people. The Society is a global leader in promoting excellence in science education and providing access to chemistry-related information and research through its multiple research solutions, peer-reviewed journals, scientific conferences, e-books and weekly news periodical Chemical & Engineering News. ACS journals are among the most cited, most trusted and most read within the scientific literature; however, ACS itself does not conduct chemical research. As a leader in scientific information solutions, its CAS division partners with global innovators to accelerate breakthroughs by curating, connecting and analyzing the world’s scientific knowledge. ACS’ main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.
Registered journalists can subscribe to the ACS journalist news portal on EurekAlert! to access embargoed and public science press releases. For media inquiries, contact newsroom@acs.org.
Note: ACS does not conduct research but publishes and publicizes peer-reviewed scientific studies.
