Chemists Celebrate Earth Week
Theme: The Curious Chemistry of Amazing Algae
COVID-19 Guidance: CCA strongly encourages all ACS groups to become aware and follow local, state, federal, and global health and government directives relative to large events and gatherings to address health and safety concerns around the ongoing pandemic. Resources are available for the planning of in-person and virtual events for CCEW 2023.
To promote the positive role that chemistry plays in the world, ACS established the Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) public awareness campaign. During CCEW, ACS members and chemistry enthusiasts celebrate by coordinating events and communicating the importance of chemistry. Read more about CCEW.
Celebrate CCEW the week of April 16-22, 2023 with the theme, “The Curious Chemistry of Amazing Algae.” Algae are emerging as one of the most promising long-term, sustainable sources of food, feed, and other co-products. What makes them so attractive are the large number and wide variety of benefits associated with how and where they grow.
Nearly all these benefits stem from the fact that algae have evolved over billions of years to produce and store energy and they do this more efficiently than any other known natural or engineered process. Amazingly, more than half of the oxygen in our atmosphere comes from algae!
