Complanadine A is an alkaloid found in club moss that may be useful in regenerative medicine. It is unusual in that it is a dimer, but its two halves are attached at different points. This year, research groups led by R. Sarpong and D. Siegel published different syntheses of complanadine A, both aided by transition-metal catalysis. The researchers helped each other reach their goal.
