Image of Palau’amine

Palau’amine is a complex, toxic sea sponge alkaloid first isolated by P. J. Scheuer et al. in 1993. Its exact structure wasn’t established until 2007. Dozens of chemists have attempted its total synthesis, which was finally accomplished by P. S. Baran and co-workers in late 2009. Palau’amine’s potential medicinal uses have yet to be fully explored.
