Skin-Inspired Organic Electronics

Skin is the body’s largest organ and is responsible for the transduction of a vast amount of information. This conformable, stretchable, self-healable and biodegradable material simultaneously collects signals from external stimuli that translate into information such as pressure, pain, and temperature. The development of electronic materials, inspired by the complexity of this organ is a tremendous, unrealized materials challenge.

Join ACS President H.N. Cheng for “Frontier Fridays” a mini-series that explores new frontiers in science that will revolutionize the future of the human race. During this first broadcast, chemical engineer Zhenan Bao of Stanford University will share details of her work in developing electronic materials inspired by the complexity of human skin and how solving this tremendous, unrealized materials challenge may change the way humans interact with electronics through skin-inspired sensors, circuits, and batteries.
