FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, Oct. 3, 2022 — The American Chemical Society (ACS) invites one and all to celebrate chemistry’s biggest “holiday,” National Chemistry Week, from Sunday, Oct. 16, to Saturday, Oct. 22. You won’t want to miss this fabulous opportunity to spotlight chemistry with this year’s theme of “Fabulous Fibers: The Chemistry of Fabrics.”
National Chemistry Week builds awareness of the positive impacts of chemistry at the local, national and global levels. The observance began as National Chemistry Day on Nov. 6, 1987, but soon evolved into a weeklong event that takes place annually during October.
Join the celebration anytime! Here are a few ways to participate.
- Play ChemClash on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. ET.
- Find your local National Chemistry Week coordinator.
- Spread the word by adding #NationalChemistryWeek, #NCW and #Fabulous Fibers to your social media posts.
- Share the love on social media: “I love chemistry because________.”
- Plan a community service event and invite friends and colleagues to join the fun.
- Write and illustrate an original poem for the Illustrated Poem Contest (for students).
- Read the ChemMatters article “Don’t Sweat It: How Moisture-Wicking Fabrics Keep You Cool and Dry.”
