Guidelines for Advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect (DEIR) in Programs Offering Bachelor's Degrees in Chemistry.
For the past three years, members of the ACS Committee for Professional Training (CPT), consultants, and ACS staff have worked to develop community-driven DEIR guidelines for ACS Approved Programs.
Recently, CPT and the ACS Approval Program Staff published an article in the Journal for Chemical Education (JCE), detailing the process for developing the guidelines as well as the full DEIR guidelines that were approved by CPT in March 2021.

An Update to the ACS Guidelines
The ACS Approval Program recognizes the importance of diversity, inclusion, and respect and aims to provide students with equitable access to an excellent undergraduate chemistry education.
On July 21st, ACS Education and the Committee for Professional Training held a department chair discussion focused on a newly proposed section of the ACS Guidelines related to diversity, inclusion, and respect. The session featured a keynote address by Rigoberto Hernandez, the Gompf Family Profession in the Department of Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University and Director of OXIDE (Open Chemistry Collaborative in Diversity Equity).
