Accompanying Lesson Plan: Lesson 3.3: Density of Water

Density of Water

  • Water molecules have the same mass and size, are packed pretty close together, and are spread evenly throughout.
  • Since the water is the same throughout an entire sample, the density is the same for any amount of water.

Liquid Water

  • Water molecules have the same mass and size. They are packed close together but are always moving. Even though they are moving, their packing is the same throughout the entire sample.
  • Since the water is the same throughout an entire sample, the density is the same for any amount of water.

Note: The water molecules are shown further apart than they would be so that molecules in the background can be seen.
